A gentleman (James) ran Naval Thunder at Historicon using the Cape Spartivento scenario and provided a brief AAR. I thought I'd share it here.

I ran the Battle of Cape Spartivento at Historicon 2010 last week.
In the first 4 turns extreme range fire left only light damage on both sides. On turn 5 though the V. Veneto hit the Ramilies at extreme range causing a fire and Southampton took hits from Guilio Cesare causing flooding.
On turn 6 V. Veneto hit Sheffield with 5 out of 9 15" shots even though she needed a 9 or 10 to hit. That sent Sheffield to the bottom and she was soon followed by Southampton who could not get her flooding under control.
By turn 9 the British were in dire straits as Renown was fired upon by 3 cruisers and 2 battleships at no more than medium range. With two fires raging and a flood she also went down. We called the game at this point as an Italian victory as there was little hope of the British catching up in the victory point race.
The biggest difference in this battle was Italian Gunnery. Time and again the Italians would score multiple hits while the Brits were lucky enough to get one hit.
Part of this was the difference in the Brits ranges with 6" guns and the poor range of Ramilies. Part was just some good luck for the Italians (see V Veneto vs. Sheffield).
Another part was the inability of the British to get both Ramilies and Renown into the battle effectively.
All four players had played Naval Thunder before so I didn't convert any new players but all are satisfied with the rules. All in all I would call this a successful experience and hope to run other Naval Thunder Battles at more conventions.
