There have been a few people suggest this. I don't think anybody has ever taken it past the idea stage though.

Any suggestions on where can I find top-view images of ships that I could use as *miniatures*?

Some Wikipedia pages hove colored top down views of ships. I am not sure where they are from, but you could perhaps use those. This would be interesting, I have never made a vassal thing before would help out. Might let people get more game in.

Refound the thread about topside minis. Over head view of many ships, at least for the british that I looked at.

Could always try to contact them. I might do that and explain it to them what we are doing. See how that goes.... Would ask for a water mark and what not to show who supplied the ships.

Just saw this.
One option would be to use an existing module ad the basis for a NT module. Eg the AH Bismarck vassal module tactical display would work and has ship counters for the Bisnark, etc.
Cheers, tom

I have a Vassal module for Naval Thunder WW1 era only. I still have to add a way to show destroyer smoke for screening ships but everything else looks like it works. Ships for all the major European nations and United States. There's a tape measure tool for measuring distances onscreen. Markers for listing, fires, flooding, and evasive maneuvers. Firing arcs can be displayed for a ship and then turned back off. Zeppelins and aircraft with spotting distance templates that can also be displayed and turned off. All ships have movement trails so you can see where they've moved when writing up an AAR. Destroyers are grouped in flotillas and as DDs are lost, the flotillas will show fewer and fewer ships. Movement is probably the easiest feature of the game. If you want to move a group of ships 4" straight just select the ships with your mouse, press the CONTROL key and then 4. The selected ships all move 4" straight. If someone is interested in giving it a try I could use the feedback. The attached file is a screenshot of the Vassal module. Attachments:

Tom,
I'll send you a private message to arrange getting you a copy of the Vassal module.

Tom and I have been tinkering with the Vassal module for naval gaming for the past month. For those that are interested, see the attached PDF of some screen shots of the module. Unless we find some major bugs in the project, I hope to make it available to everyone in early June. Vassal naval module.pdf (522.2 KB)

Attached is the Vassal module for naval miniatures games. It has ships for WW1, WW2, and the Russian-Japanese war. The module includes a tape measure tool. When you measure between ships, I recommend that you always measure from the center of the firing ship to the center of the target ship. It makes it easier, especially when the ships are zoomed out a lot. The distance measured will appear on the screen for everyone to see. As long as the distance is displayed on the screen, you have control of the the tape measure tool and no one else can use it. Once you're finished you'll need to click somewhere else on the screen to release the tape measure for other players to use it.

The file has to be opened with the Vassal program, version 3.2.16. Probably won't work if you are trying to open it with an earlier version.

Damn, never knew a module existed! A friend actually started developing a module in Tabletop Simulator which we tested the other day. It's rough around the edges but already playable. Did you update the module in the meantime by any chance, or is version 1.3 the latest one? Have you considered posting it on www.vassalengine.org ?
