One of our local gamers was trying to recreate the Trebuchet in ShipBuilder and ran into an issue where the 3 ASGMs added 99 tons to his ship
Is that an error in the Excel file?

I don't understand how the MAG and Ammo sections work in Shipbuilder, particularly with ASGMs. If I try to recreate the Trebuchet from the rulebook I end up with 99 tonnes in ASGMs. Here's a screenshot to demonstrate the trouble I'm having.

18 missiles at 5 tons each equals 90 tons and 3 launchers at 3 tons each equals 9 tons. Add the two together and you get 99 tons missiles are mass intensive in large numbers and you have enough for 6 turns of full salvos. Most of my missile armed designs only run to 3 or 4 turns of max salvo. You can stretch this by firing understrength salvos at range were the aim is to force a reaction and hits are a secondry consideration.

I guess the issue is not with the cost of the ASGMs but that he cannot recreate that ship in the shipyard - it comes up short by 42 tonnes. I suspect that you cannot recreate some of the ships from the published factions.

Sorry, my bad. Now I understand the question. I went over all the ships in the rulebook so that I could use the SSD printout and I found many of them were slightly off, the trebeuchet was one of the more extreem cases. I suspect that the cannon ships were designed using an earlier iteration of the build engine and missed the update when final tweaks to various systems were carried out.

I think the ships were all designed using an Antimatter Manipulation Tech Level 5. That may account for the differences you are seeing. A consequence of a late design change to the system. Or really a philisophical change on what the core setting would represent.
Anyway. . . try running them with AM TL5. If that doesn't account for the difference, then yes, in the subsequent updates we've made to the shipbuilder, a change has been made that throws the numbers off slightly from the original core rulebook designs. You can just treat it as a faction benefit. You will notice its not possible to build the core races using the suggested faction design rules. That is intentional. It's certainly not possible with the common 15 point tech level buy that forum members favor for even more restrictive tech.

Ok, colour me embarrassed. I input 2 for Delta, instead of 1...that doesn't show on my screenshot. The Trebuchet can actually be constructed with TL 5 and has 14 unused MASS! Anyways, thanks for the clarification on ASGMs guys!
