I was very fortunate to obtain a box of used Pre-dread ships in a silent auction from NAVCON that were PS and Viking forge. My RJW fleet benefited from the Viking forge models. I have identified the majority as RJW and SPAN-AM. There are a handful that have aluded me. For some reason only about 10% of the images on Viking Forge's web page appear for me. I am pretty sure these models are VF, but I cannot identify them. I do not beleive they are what the previous owner has them labeled. I would like to identify them before I place my next RJW order with PS. Group1 I believe these are the same(labeled Gromovoi and Rossiya): Group 2 (labeled Bogatya and Askold): Labeled Tokiwa: Labeled Asama: No label at all: TIA,

Well, to start with, Group 1 are NOT the Rossiya and Gromovoi (odd spellings) since both of those cruisers had four funnels. I'm not familiar with the Viking Forge figures, so I'm not sure . . . but the Pallada class did have three funnels . . . but I don't have my reference books handy at the moment.
As for group two, the Askold is very recognizable with its Five Funnels (the lead one thinner than the others) . . . the only 5-stacker in the Russian namy . . . so that one is misidentified too . . . and again I don't have my books handy re: Bogatyr.
The Tokiwa did NOT have raked funnels, so that one is mislabeled too. The Asama is the same class as the Tokiwa, but I can't tell much from that photo.
So you are quite right in questioning the labeling of these ships . . . I suggest some research, but maybe someone here has a lot of Viking Forge ships and can help identify what they are supposed to be.
VIKING FORGE would do well to post photos of all of its offerings instead of just an occasional ship. I know that I want to see pictures before I order something. Not that all of Panzersciffe's photos are all that good, but at least you can get some idea.

As you can see I have put my guess on a couple, but like you I did do some basic research and stacks did not match up. I also looked at the PS version of my guess and they did not seem right.
Not sure what is up with the Viking Forge site. I was happy with the models I received in theis auction and would consider a few more for certain capital ships. When I go to the site it looks like pictures are suppose to be ther, but only a handful load and I am not going to spend the extra money without seeing the product first.
If anyone else has a guess or photo link that would be great. As mentioned I did a internet search on what I thought them might be and nothing is lining up.
Thanks,

I figured you guys would have nailed this by now. I should have made it a contest, but then iIguess I would have to have the answers for that to work. Well at least I do not feel as bad for not finding them myself.

Can you provide the lengths of the models? That may give us some insight into which models you have. The IJN had numerous PC with two stacks that were raked.
The one labelled Tokiwa is incorrect as the AC Tokiwa had twin 8" turrets fore and aft.
Are the stacks on the one labelled Asama raked or straight as the camera may be giving us the impression that they are raked.
From my references the last cruiser's configuration does not match any IJN cruisers. The ones built up amidships as that model would have been AC's and they all had twin turrets fore and aft except for the Kasuga which had a single 10" fore and a twin 8" turret aft.

I think I have Identified the first two as Diana and Pallada.....which fits the theme of the other ships they were with. The poor quality of paint tends to hide some of the detail.

Are you thinking about removing the paint? If so, there maybe a name or number on the underside of the ship which could help you.

Just scrubbed them and primed. I have to comapre them to the PS models I have and decide which I like better.
