Gentlemen, Five of the Six Japanese capitol ships at the Battle of the Yellow Sea (as fought on December 12, 2010) sank beneath the waves . . . and a heavily damaged Mikasa was left burning in the wake of the three surviving Russian battleships as they successfully sailed to join their heavy cruisers in Vladivostok. For a brief account of the battle, see: jeffsnavy.blogspot.com/2010/12/decisive-russian-victory.html-- Jeff

Jeff,
The report looks great. I really like how your lavels turn out. I am sure they help at identifying ships from a distance.
Thanks for sharing!

Aaron, The labels were printed on my color laser printer (white print on a blue background) to fit on the sides of my bases. The bases are 1" wide x 3" long x 1/4" thick balsa wood . . . (I used a 36" long strip that I got at a local hobby shop). If I recall, the print strips were 16 pixels tall and I believe that I used a 10 point bold Ariel font. I then cut out the strips and pasted them on the sides of the bases using white glue . . . but I don't know if this would work with inkjet labels, they might "run". -- Jeff

It was nice to see the Russians win for a change. Any chance of getting to see how the fleets manueuvered or is that a ' state' secret...

I'm afraid that we were too busy actually playing and only occasionally even remembered to take a photo. The "state secret" business was simply a writer's trick to cover my weak memory.
In general the two Russian divisions separated (with the second division increasing speed to get to where we were more or less parallel with each other) to hopefully pin the Japanese between us.
But when the first Japanese division overextended, I cut back inside him so that we could trap the second division between us.
And, oh yes, we had a rule that once the divisions separated, we couldn't talk with each other about what we planned to do or what ships we planned to shoot at.

Aha... IJN overconfidence...just kidding. Nice maneuver to cut the two IJN divisions off from each other and mutual support. I like the idea of the two division not being able to communicate once they separate for this time period. Nice addition of realism. When we do our AAR's with the write-up and pics, if possible one person takes notes while another takes the pics. That way we don't burden down one person. Sometimes one person will just take the notes and do the write-up and may not play the game. Not always possible, but it seems to allow for a little more detail in the write-ups. We have recently run a Greek vs. Turkish fleet action in the late to mid-1930s. We hope to have the write-up done soon and posted.
