Hi,
I'm working on doing a Star Wars scenario, but the issue I'm running into is the fighters. Does anyone have any suggestions? I'm wanting the X-Wings to be tougher than the TIE fighters as part of the story is that the rebels had better ships and pilots and even though the empire outnumbered them, they could still win.
Thanks.

Hi, I'm working on doing a Star Wars scenario, but the issue I'm running into is the fighters. Does anyone have any suggestions? I'm wanting the X-Wings to be tougher than the TIE fighters as part of the story is that the rebels had better ships and pilots and even though the empire outnumbered them, they could still win. Thanks. This thread would probably be better off in the faction/ship design board. Either way, I'll give this a go... I'm old school. So I'm going to be speaking strictly about starfighters from the original three Star Wars movies (ANH, ESB, RotJ). This being the case, I'm going to limit my discussion to the four major Rebel designs (A-, B-, X-, and Y- wings) and the two major Imperial designs (Tie and Tie Interceptor). In general, Rebel strikecraft were larger, more heavily armed, more durable, more capable designs than their imperial counterparts. They included defensive shielding (something early Ties did not) and often made use of astromech droids for aid in damage control, targeting, and navigation. Additionally, they could make the jump to lightspeed... something the Imperials saw little use for until the Rebellion proved itself a major threat. The Ties had the advantages of numbers, a never-ending supply of replacements, and support from an array of capital ships. A cool little sketch done by ILM www.theforce.net/swtc/Pix/books/art/ilmmglt1.jpg shows the relative speed & maneuverability for each of the above designs. Basically, A-wings are the fastest & most maneuverable. Tie/in are slower, but just as maneuverable. The X- and Y-wings and standard Tie are all comparable... about the same speed and maneuverability. The B-wing was the slowest and least maneuverable. Using these as a benchmark, and taking a cue from CB:MvM, I'd do the following (caveat -- these have in no way been playtested... they're initial thoughts at best): Class Speed Def Dog Pen Dmg X-wing 7 8 d10 d10 2 Y-wing 7 7 d6 d10 3 Tie 7 6 d10 d6 1 A-wing 9 8 d10+1 d10 2 Tie/in 8 8 d10+1 d6 1 B-wing 6 6 d6 d10+1 3 Any thoughts? I'd love some comments...

Oh... and the above stats don't even attempt to include any genre-specific special abilities. For instance:
1) astromech droids? how might they aid Rebel pilots? 2) "jump drives" 3) ion cannons on B-wings (Y-wings?) 4) ....?

My interpretations in RED: Class Speed Def Dog Pen Dmg X-wing 8 8 d10 +1 d10 2 Y-wing 7 7 d6 d10 3 Tie 8 6 d10 d6 1 A-wing 9 8 d10 d10 1 Tie/in 9 8 d10+1 d6 1 B-wing 6 6 d 10 d10+1 3 The changes to speed would make the B and Y wings slower than the other fighters. The TIE Interceptor as fast as the A wing (I think the A is faster, but not enough to make it 1 faster in the game). I upped the B wing in a dog fight because of all the weapons it carries and gave a +1 to the X wing because of it's role in the movie/game. I removed the A wing +1 for the same reason. Hope these two views help!

My ruling is that because of the fragile nature of the TIE fighters they loose tied rolls when dogfighting instead of drawing.

Thanks for the suggestions. I'll have to try them out.

Personally I think the Y-Wing should have at least the same defence as the X-Wing. Y-Wings are always described as being less maneuvarable but able to take a beating.
