This is great. Nice article on the U.S. battlecruisers in there. And it actually admits they are battlecruisers!

You cannot believe everything you read on the internet...I thought they were large cruisers. ;D This is an ongoing huge debate on the Axis and Allies ForuMINI because the game designer classified the USS ALaska and a Cruiser for game purposes.

Boo!!
Does the 'cruiser' designation make much of a difference game mechanics wise?

Boo!! Does the 'cruiser' designation make much of a difference game mechanics wise? Not really as the game is fairly simple. The designation Battle cruiser does not even exist in WaS so a Battlecruiser is either a cruiser or a Battleship. There are a couple of Special Abilities that it cannot use or be affected by due to this designation. The argument is more a point of order issue with those that always considered USS Alaska as a BC. It never fails to raise its ugly head every few months.

I have an older book by Jane's on battleships that states that the Iowa class should have been classified as a battle cruiser.

I have an older book by Jane's on battleships that states that the Iowa class should have been classified as a battle cruiser. Well... they technically meet the criteria... sort of. In reality, I think they're better described as "fast battleships." Able to outrun & kill most anything. Scary-good would be another apt description.
