Just want to check I'm getting this right!
If a ship takes a non-penetrating hit from a weapon which would only inflict one point of damage after penetrating armour, does the damage get rounded down to zero?
Meaning that grapeshot, laser gatlings really have to penetrate armour to inflict any actual damage, and therefore won't harm a heavily armoured target?
Thanks

You are correct, that's why some of these are more anti-fighter than ship. This also applies to fighter who have 1 DAM and don't penetrate.

This ruined me last night My fighters couldnt hurt my opponent's capital ships because of their high armor, and their shields were down in certain facings for multiple turns...I guess I should have just stripped other facings...or taken bombers

Our group came up with a house rule to help the 1 point damage fighters vs a heavy armored ship. Instead of halving each fighter's damage which makes the damage 0, we take the total squadron damage and halve that, rounding down.

Not a bad house rule. . . but potentially highly lethal in a no-shields universe as well as a huge power boost to fighters just in general. The "round down to zero" was deliberate. But if you're wanting a more fighter-focused game, that's certainly one way to move it in that direction. Still, from a game-design standpoint that probably would have been the better way to go. Like art, game design is never finished. . . just abandoned.
