I hope this worked. Satellite Internet has been spotty at best the last 4 days.
G2 AAR coming soon!
AAR- Battle of SAVO ISLAND Game 1 played on April 8th
Game 1:Pre- turn 1 Japanese turn- (Represents surprise)
•
• Aerial flare dropped by spotter plane illuminate the Canberra and her group.
• IJN Chokai opens fire at HMAS Canberra and scores 6 penetrating Main battery hits causing 30 pts of hull damage, loss of a main turret and started a fire that would eventually due the ship in.
• IJN Kinugasa opens open DD Wilson with no effect .
Turn 1
•
• Japanese cruisers split battle line and maneuver for attack.
• All allied ships move ahead 4. Manning battle stations. The Canberra and her group return fire with minimal effect.
Turn 2
• IJN Chokai closes and launches a successful Torpedo spread against the burning Canberra. The only fish to score a hit failed to penetrate so only caused 12 pts of hull damage but no critical.
• The IJN Kinugasa obliterated the gallant DD USN WILSON with deadly close range main battery fire.
• As they watch in horror from the oil filled sea, the destroyermen of Wilson witness a ready ammo explosion that finishes the HMAS CANBERRA due to uncontrolled fire.
Turn 3
• USN Chicago (CA) sinks from flooding after taking main battery hits from Chokai and Kinugasa.
• Chicago strikes back at Chokai inflicting considerable damage.
• In a desperate move, the DD USN Patterson launched torpedoes at the Chokai before being riddled and sunk by secondary fire. (My house rule requires all Torpedoes to be targeted and launched during the Cruiser fire phase. This is my personal pref.)
• As it approached from the west the DD USN Bagley was destroyed by Main Battery fire from the other Japanese ships at ranges approaching 20 inches.
Turn 4
• IJN Furutaka closes and scores a single Torpedo hit against the USN Vincennes but it fails to penetrate.
• Furataka is set ablaze by gunfire from the Quincy.
• IJN Kinugasa (CA) Sunk by main gunfire by Vincennes.
• IJN TENRYU (CL) Sunk by main gunfire by USN Astoria
• USN HELM (DD) Sunk by main gunfire by Aoba before she sinks
• USN VINCENNES (CA) Sunk by main gunfire by Kinugasa before she sinks
• IJN Chokai (CA) Capsizes due to uncontrolled flooding.
Concluded: Game called.
Japanese losses: 2 Cruisers sunk, 1 Light Cruiser Sunk
Allied losses were: 3Cruisers sunk, 4 destroyers sunk.
Strategic victory goes to the Allies because the Allied invasion force at Guadalcanal in now safe from surface attack.
This was a real tough game to call because of the Japanese side’s intact ships at the end of the game.
The LW players were great sportsman. I awarded the best player metal to the Captain of the Chokai.
