I was playing the first half of a game last night and one of my ships got a rudder critical just as it was about 2 inches from th board edge. If it moves forward half, turns and moves the second half, he's gone. What happens in that situation? Thanks

One option would be to 'scroll' the whole playing area by moving all ships a set distance, so their relative positions are the same?
If that's not feasible, go with the 'off-table' half victory value as part of the end game?

Under the standard rules leaving the battlespace vountarily or involuntarily counts as retreating.
Or you can use a 'floating' game board as wilf describes.
