Looking to add a few merchant ships for convoy games and I was just wondering what colours they used? I'm fairly confident that most of the ships were repainted light grey whilst neutral country ships retained their company colours but I was wondering if the repainted ships used camouflage like the military vessels. Also did the Axis and the Allies repaint in light grey or just the Allies? If not what colours did the Axis use. Cheers for any help.

Martin -- I'd be interested in your experience with convoy-related battles with Naval Thunder. Recently I bought a couple of Panzerschiffe merchant packs and am in the midst of adding masts and painting. Your countryman Mal Wright is an authority on convoy warfare for WW2. He wrote a nice reply when I asked the same question as your on The Miniatures Page. Here's an example thread from TMP; hope it works for you. theminiaturespage.com/boards/msg.mv?id=152218Mal also runs his own blog for convoy battles: www.malwrightww2convoy.com/Best of luck --Matt

Cheers for these links Matt, exactly what I was after.
Haven't had a chance to play any convoy games yet but will keep you informed.

P. Hreachmack's "The Painter's Guide..." has 7 diagrams of camo patterns on merchant ships that it says are from "ONI-208J Japanese Merchant Ships Recognition Manual". Theare a wide variety of disruptive angles, stripes, splotches, etc. Most are in the "large pattern" style so not tiny dots or poncho camo style. Based upon the diagrams, anything goes.
