So I'm sure many of you have heard. . . theminiaturespage.com/news/894777/I am really tempted to ask Mongoose if they'll let me do the re-write for them. It's a great license, and the Call to Arms rules are fairly solid, but I feel they need me to make it really fulfill its potential. LOL! I feel I have a Geary complex. Maybe I'll just settle for writing my Trek-style CBF supplement.

Given the way ADB seems to be throwing out licences you could always ask them about an official CBF Trek supplement. Nothing like a bit of piggybacking on Mongooses advertising campaign to get your own product noticed.

Yeah, that had occurred to me. I may ask them when I get ready to do something about it.

Well in any event there will be some nice new ST minis to use with CBF!

I'm not worried about beating Mongoose to market. . . I don't capture market share. . . I take it from the weak. LOL!

Not having bought any resin miniatures, what are peoples thoughts on the decision to use resin for this small a scale (1/3125, about 3.5 inches for a Constitution Class CA?)
I know they will be slightly bigger than the current Starline 2400 range (1/3788), allowing more detail, but is using resin a good choice?

Waiting to see how it copes with stuff like engine struts, which are always a bit fragile on Trek ships. All resins tend to have pitting and air bubbles as part of the manufacturing process, so there's likely to be more preparation and more modelling skill needed than with a white metal casting.
There have been a few problems reported with the recent GW switch to its "Finecast" resin. Including allegedly models melting under strong sunlight!

Ravenstar Studios have an excellent reputation for their BSG ships with a high amount of detail and little pitting or bubbling. Fine detail can be achieved. It just takes a bit more effort to make sure miscasts don't get shipped out to the public.

Resin has its problems, not the lest is pitting and bubbling. The other issue, which affects all of us, is miscasts can't be melted down and redone. Metal has gone skyhigh lately, but resin miscast cost will be passed along to us. The other big thing driving all of this is shipping cost. Metal is heavy, resin not so much.

Its my understanding that you will be able to purchase this material (miniatures and/or rules) from ADB or Mongoose or your LGS. Theoretically, if you can order from a domestic source it should hold the cost of shipping down. ADB is also saying that they are going to continue to produce the 2400 series minis.

For all those interested in this, after all the computer renders being shown on the Starfleetgames discussion forum, there are now painted examples of the first available batch of Mongoose Publishing's Federation Commander/SFB ships miniatures up on ADB's Facebook page for their Call to Arms:Star Fleet game (permission given on the ADB Federation Commander forum to post link)... www.facebook.com/media/set/?set=a.10150373007298280.371548.231728653279&type=3&l=31d2d17ba4Anyone looking for more discussion on these minis can find more information on the Federation Commander boards as well, especially under the "Starline 2500" sub-board... www.starfleetgames.com/federation/phpbb2/index.php?c=8Pre-orders can be made on Mongoose UK and US sites as well as of Thursday (17/11). www.mongoosepublishing.com/miniatures/ctastarfleet.htmlSo what do people think about how these minis seem to be turning out? It will be interesting to see what Trek gamers think when they are actually available (quality, durability etc).

The mongoose minis are too big for FedCom and SFB play. You need at least 2 inch hexes and for a tournament size map, you are looking at 7' x 5'.

That's why I went 3" hex because of the size of space ships these days.

If you've been following the development of this range over on the Federation Commander forum (as well as the Star Fleet Universe BBS board, or the Mongoose forums as well) you will probably be aware of the quality control problems that have been occurring with production of this new range. Here is the latest update, they will be producing the smaller ships in metal (pewter?). From the ADB Fed Comm forum (posted simultaneously with Mongoose ATCA:SF forums)...www.starfleetgames.com/federation/phpbb2/viewtopic.php?t=4413...here is the decision being made by ADB and Mongoose Publishing to try and clear up the problems with the production of the Starline 2500 miniature range for A Call to Arms: Star Fleet.I hope this works out for ADB, because this has been a bit of a rollercoaster since the quality control issue with the minis reared its ugly head.

For those interested, there are a few pics up on the Star Fleet Universe Discussion Board of bare metal Starline 2500 minis in the Federation, Klingon and Romulan sections of the board. www.starfleetgames.com/discus/...then "The Joint Venture with Mongoose", then "Starline 2500", then "Federation Ships" etc.
