First of all, hello everyone. I've been a long time lurker in this forum to make myself a picture of CBF, to decide if i liked it enough to dedicate time to it... and I certainly did, it's an amazing game system (congratulations to everyone involved).
I have a question though. I have both books, the core rules and MvM. I was expecting some system to integrate new rules to the old rules in the MvM book (new fighters in old carriers, for example), but I found none. Any tips for mixing rules? Am I not supposed to do that? (I understand the "it's your game, do what you want" thing, but I'm concerned for balance issues).
Thanks, and I'm sorry if my english sounds a bit weird, its not my native language.

I do own MvM but haven't played it yet, so others can tell you much more about that game.
There are some significantly different assumptions in the core background and the MvM one. MvM doesn't use shields..
Personally we have agreed to import the MvM battlecarrier ship role and to allow gunboats. Don't see any particular problem in having fighters with different ratings. For myself I'd prefer to build something roughly battlestar-like using the core rules than to try to play a ship designed without shields in the core rules environment.
I'd imagine that a shielded ship operating in the MvM world would be rather more powerful... effectively it could probabaly take twice the hits.

MvM was designed to be fully integrated with vanilla CBF as far as I know, if that's what you want to do.
The factions have the same tech level layout that are in vanilla.
As for balance... I own both but I have never played a crossover game. However, if you do it straight by the rules, gunboats and battlecarriers are actually faction benefits, so against other published factions that would constitute an advantage.
Also, at least on the colonial side, the "tough" faction beni would go a long way, in my mind, to balancing things out. In my vanilla games a significant portion of the damage done to a ships hull tends to come from penetrations that hit empty or destroyed hardpoints.
And while they don't have shields, most of the designs in MvM have pretty extreme armor, and a conventional fleets anti-shield weapons are going to be fairly useless against battlestars and base stars, which would basically half the firepower of most of my "balanced" generic vanilla fleets.
And don't forget that the Cyborgs use all those shield-skipping missiles.
soooooo.. yeah... I think it would be interesting to try it out some time.

Thanks for your answers. I was thinking in bringing some of the MvM rules to the core setting, rather than using core ships in MvM. The rules I was thinking about were the new fighters (colonial ones), fighters intercepting missiles and gunships. I don't think there would be balance issues with those rules using core as the base.

You certainly can do that. Dread will, at some point down the road, after several fleetbooks, put out a combined excel so you can do what you're talking about. Also, he believes the true test of space rules is the cross-over game. He ran one of these last year at GenCon (?) BSG vs SW ships!

It would be great to have the new ship roles and fighter types added to the generic ship design tool. I'd do it myself but I'd probably mess it up more than making it work

Right now with only one book out, it would be a lot of work to redo each time a new book is available. So lets have Dread work on more supplements.
