Gents,
I ran a light version of the Battle of the Yellow Sea last night at the Club, using only the capital ships.
Russians: Tsesarevich, Retvizian, Poibeda, Peresviet, Sevastopol, Poltava.
Japanese: Mikasa, Asahi, Fuji, Shikishima, Nissin, Kasuga.
Six players: three per side (two ships each).
Set up as per the RotB scenario, the Russians sailing SE, the Japanese intercepting on a SW course.
Some shabby Russian sailing produced an irregular line ahead with a dog leg.
The Japanese van aimed to intercept their Russian opposition, with their two armoured cruisers (Nissin & Kasuga) splitting off independently, sailing due W with a view to target the Russian ships aft.
Sevastopol & Poltava broke off to engage the CAs accordingly, heading NE to bring their broadsides to bear, their heavier guns longer range taking their toll on the Nissin.
Tsesarevich led the Russian breakout, and suffered a pounding from Mikasa and Ashai, taking 11 hits eventually suffering severe flooding/listing, speed reduced to 1MP.
Retvizian took 3 hits and lost its forward main gun mount.
Poibeda took 1 hit and lost it aft main gun mount.
Peresviet took 2 hits and lost one of its starboard secondary gun mounts.
Sevastopol took 2 hits and lost its forward main gun and one secondary port gun mount.
Poltava, last in line, zero hits!
However, the engagement was not entirely one-sided.
Mikasa took 5 hits, lost one starboard secondary gun mount but took a critical hit to the bridge.
Asahi took 2 hits and lost one starboard secondary gun mount.
Fuji, took 3 hits and lost one aft main gun & one port secondary gun mount.
Shikishima took 7 hits and lost it forward main gun.
Nissin took 4 hits, suffered severe flooding that developed into a severe list & eventually capsized!
Kasuga received 1 hit and lost one port secondary gun mount.
When we called time the game was still in the balance but the general feeling was that the Japanese were slightly ahead. Although they had lost one CA, Tsesarevich was in trouble, and none of the Russian fleet had made their escape to the East (although Sevastopol & Poltava could have made short work of the Kasuga and escape to the NE).

(Note to self: re-paint bases to match new game mat!)
General feedback was good: the Rules are gaining in popularity at the Club. Some of the WW2 naval gamers have expressed an interest in getting the Rules for their period. And my cunning plan to bring them up to speed to run Tsushima is proceeding as planned! :¬)
Cheers,
Wilf
