And why do they make it harder for a main battery to hit but not secondary batteries? Splash markers represent main batteries firing at a target. Prior to radar fire control relied on visual id of hits. When multiple ships fire at the same targets then it becomes more difficult to id which splashes belong to what ship to adjust fire. As for secondaries you could argue for splash markers. It is my undersyanding most were local controled and the rang is much closer. If anything you could make a point that no splash markers should be requirec for ranges under 10k which is almost point blank for most main guns in WWII. In the end in terms on NT I think it is about simplicity and adding nice flavor. HTH?

Simplicity is always a major goal.
In this case, it was rationalized that the RoF on secondary guns is so much higher, that its easier to adjust fire based on splashes.
