wondering if any generic missions have been set up for NT:BR, something along the lines of the very successful mission system in the Flames of War WWII land action game.
At the moment, we're enjoying and looking forward to more historical missions. I bought a book from another set of rules (of the too complicated type) that has 50+ historical Pacific battles in it, a large % of which are suitable for the surface warfare I'm most interested in fighting out. But it is also fun to build a fleet to a points level and try to fight out a mission, very common in other rules sets.
didn't see anything in the catalogue altho I did note that "Bitter Rivals" has a large selection of historical scenarios in it. I assume that one could work out the points and play them with any navy, even switching theaters of war.

I believe this is covered in the rules. If you look at the data sheets ships have a relative point value assigned. In theory matching up fleets based on point value should work to produce generic scenarios.

It would also be easy enough to come up with a few basic missions along FoW. In fact, you might be able to move some of those from land to sea with a little thought.

right - I was just wondering if there were several different choices of generic missions anywhere. If not I'll try and work out a few myself. "Routine Patrol", "Meeting Engagement", "Convoy Escorts & Interdiction" all come quickly to mind.

Colonial Battlefleet has a mission system in it, if you're interested in picking up a starship combat rule set. It would make a very easy conversion I think.

Normally my answer to this would be "OOOH, yeah!" I've a pile of spiffy Star Wars scale resin and metal minis waiting for paint and pain. However, I was thinking about something with more "crunch" in it, that would take more knowledge about the period or the rules than I presently have. I am willing to kick the snowball down the hill, however.
The model for this is the mission system in FoW. I don't honestly know a more significant surprise presence in the hobby in the last ten years than BF taking a horribly neglected period like WWII Company Level combat and making it into one of the most popular and played games in the hobby as a whole. I bet it's outpaced Napoleonics and even ancients unless you take all rulesets together as a whole. And the way they did it was with the combination of fair and workable historical lists and 7 basic missions with another several specialty lists. People love to be able to just show up and roll a scenario and play with a list they've made. I don't see any reason why SD:BR can't do the same thing for naval gaming.
