i am sorry about the lack of pics but for some stupid reason i just did not grab my camera out of the truck when i was there today. i am sure a few people will post pics from there or on the website.
but a quick idea of a couple of game that i played today.
the first one was with battlefield hobbys and thier 1200 scale "things that go bump in the med" using the WWII rules. I ran the naval forces of itialy with some of the worst crews ever....i was talked of taking them out back and beating them unitl they could hit a ship....
i was fighting a force of brits in just a random fleet pickup game that really was very cool for a game. i had 3 fast battleships and 3 cruisers. the brits had i think along the same lines meybe or meybe one more ships then me.
we started in the couners from each other with 2 of my ships coming in from the couner to my left which lead to my hanging a left turn for the game. the brits started in two rows and went towards the middle of the table which left 3 ships of the force to sit out most of the battle since range was an issue mostof the game. the thing that hurt me is a crossover with my battleline which lead to a couple of turns i could not fire sevreral ships as i got a couple of them turned around and got into a battleline...
but more the frst part of the fight i got to pound on two brit cruisers....and the only thing that happened was they got thier decks washed very well since i seemed to miss more then do anything. but somehow in all this i ended up sinking both of them and then started in on the two battleships behind them which i did really put a hurting on for sure.
over all they sank one of my cruisers due to fire and shear damage sink, the rest of the force they did damage to with one battleship with about half damage and then rest ok damage or light stuff.
over all the game lasted a very long time on time wise i think we called it at somewhere around turn 13 or so i think. which if the turns are 5 mint then the battle ran for about 65 mintues or so and there three freah ships just getting into the fight at the that time but i still had a very good battleline and out numbered them at the that point.. over all a very well run game and it was fun. thier where a couple of rules that we needed to look up after the game and figure out for any gun that pen need to role a crit hit. they where thinking only main batt guns,
they where also running a russia/ jap was on the next table and it was very a nice setup. i did not play in it but the amount of ships was very cool in 1000 scale. it got bloody from what i heard about the game. it was the fight with the russias sailing the black seas fleet to japan to fight out of the book.
i meet two other members of the board running a 1200 sclae WWII game else where at the con and they where playying a small group of japs vs us in a night battle. I know i ended up helping them out with the moral rolls at one point and watching here and there as they played the game. i have to say the WWII ships have great speed and firepower and can really take a pouding from what i seen of the sheets i got to look at today.
the two gents i for the life of me can not remember thier names but i know one was from crystal lake il and the other was from fughter west and had something to do with sheep and was a teacher i think. sorry guys...it was fun talking to you both though.
i also got to play a smoke on the water civil war iron clad game which was rather fun....i got to play a moniter i think and on the union side. the rebs had 4 ships and we had 6 ships including the new ironsides.....i ended up chasing one ship for sevral turns nipping at its heels after lossing one gun in the turret and then after bouncing for some time he just blew the rest of the turret off the ships and i pulled out of the fight. but they ships someohow had two guns expolde and then set the newirons sides on fire before the end of the game and did some damage to a couple of others. the other rebs one got sunk, one ran up the white flag and two got away to open seas....fun game, meybe to many players i think for the action. i might have to look into a set of rules for iron clades since i now seem to have many ships for uncharated seas that i have pickep up....
