At a mini con yesterday I ran a modified historic action from 1940 where I let the French sortie from Mers-el-Kebir before the British attacked to prevent them from getting to Vichy France. I've done the game before with a different rules system with much the same results, only a lot longer to play. campaignsinminiature.blogspot.com/2011/11/recon-nov-19.htmlComments welcomed. Michael

Great report! Thanks for sharing!
What did the con players think of the rules?

Thanks for the AAR. Would have been interesting to see how the battle would have turned out if the French had not lost a BB so early in the game. Welcome to your first magazine explosion. They are usually rare, but can be game changers in games with almost equal sides, especially when it is a capital ship.

The two guys who had played before are now convinced like me that it's the way to go for multiple ship actions, especially ones that involve capital ships. They are all heavily invested in SK5 but want a game that can be completed. Everyone said they had a good time and were pleased with the hard fought result.
Pity the first magazine explosion had to be a major ship, but they carried on. I don't think the result would have been hugely different if it had been an ordinary critical. The British were typically unlucky with their dice throughout and the French very lucky to only lose one quad turrent on the battlecruisers. A pip different here and there and it's a huge change to the play. But, that's why we use dice. Cheers!
