We have been looking for a WWII naval game that is fun, fast, realistic and playable (without a Cray supercomputer). We really like Naval Thunder.
We have the models for doing some Guadalcanal games. In other games, the Americans effectively utilized star shells to keep the Japanese illuminated and fight it pretty much as a day battle.
I was just wondering how to keep our night battles from becoming a day battle. Suggestions?

Check out this AAR where aerial flares were used by IJN: www.steeldreadnought.proboards.com/index.cgi?board=aar&action=display&thread=552Yes, the USN had star shell capability, but I thik you will find especially early on that they lacked the trainig to properly use them. Same with Radar. Without ADM Willis Lee aboard USS Washington the USN probablt would have never realized the capability of radar as well as they did. As the scenario designer you set the limitations and conditions. Give the USN star shells, but make them roll for effectiveness. Just because they fire them does not mean they automatically detonate where they are suppse to....make them roll like a hit and penetration. Just some thoughts. In the above scenario the flare only lasted one turn.
