The boards have been a little quiet lately, so I thought that I would wake everyone up... I have stats for a few more ships (ahem!), but finding the time and quoting sources (and checking and rechecking...) can be a little...difficult... The ships are included in the 1.7 version of the printing tool, of Battleship Row, but there aren't any stats included - just the cells... I know this class was not completed before the war ended, but I like what - if scenarios..., and hey, why not?? Ships in Class: Des Moines (CA134), Salem (CA139), Newport News (CA148), (USS Dallas (CA140) not launched). My sources include: Conways - All the World's Fighting Ships 1922 - 1946. (2006 reprint) Whitley - Cruisers of WWII. (2000 reprint) Friedmann - US Cruisers: An Illustrated Design History. That looks pretty close to what I came up with. The only change I would suggest if using these would be a house rule that they don't get affected by extra splash markers when shooting. After all, they had rapid fire 8" guns.

I could live with that...Thanks for the feedback!

The firing cycle of the Des Moines class 8" guns was 6 seconds vs. 15 seconds on a Baltimore class. The Cleveland/Fargo class 6" guns firing rate was 6-8 seconds and the Worcester class CLAA 6" guns could fire every 5 seconds. Probably wouldn't take long to empty the magazines at those rates. That's a hell of a lot of serious heavy metal output - very scary!
