*****2/17 UPDATE all have now been confirmed with Dave from Panzerschiffe
With the pending release of RotB2 has anyone started to assemble their fleets yet?
I did a little reading and the fleet lists will not be that extensive for the Battle of Manilla Bay and Battle of Santiago de Cuba.
I am looking to order from Panzerschiffe again and the USN is pretty straight forward conversion for the models available.
I am struggling a bit more with the Spanish with out doing some more research on classes I am currently missing 3 ships.
Just wondering if anyone has already done this and knows the model numbers for PS?
Here is what I have so far:
Santiago de Cuba
US North Atlantic Squadron - Rear Admiral William T. Sampson •Armored Cruiser USS New York (flagship) L-306 •Battleship USS Iowa L-304 •Battleship USS Indiana L-303 •Battleship USS Oregon L-303 •Armed Yacht Gloucester D-305
US "Flying Squadron" - Commodore Winfield Scott Schley •Armored Cruiser USS Brooklyn (flagship) L-307 •Battleship USS Texas L-301 •Battleship USS Massachusetts L-303 •Armed Yacht USS Vixen D-305
Spanish Caribbean Squadron - Admiral Pascual Cervera •Armored Cruiser Infanta Maria Teresa (flagship) L-315 •Armored Cruiser Almirante Oquendo L-315 •Armored Cruiser Vizcaya L-315 •Armored Cruiser Cristobal Colon L-316 •Torpedo Boat Destroyer Pluton D-307 •Torpedo Boat Destroyer Furor D-307
Battle of Manilla Bay:
USN •Light Cruiser USS Olympia (flagship) L-310 •Light Cruiser USS Baltimore L309 •Light Cruiser USS Raleigh L-311 • Light Cruiser USS Boston L-308 • Gunboat USS Concord D-303 SPAIN •Light Cruiser Reina Cristina (flagship) L-317 •Light Cruiser Castilla L-319 •Don Antonio de Ulloa L-318 •Don Juan de Austria L-318 •Gunboat Isla de Cuba D-309 •Gunboat Isla de Luzón D-309 •Marques del Duero D-308 (this is the only proxy as PS does not have an exact model)
Am I missing any other critical ships for this period? I know there were some Unengaged vessels for both these scenarios. Hoping to be able to place one larger order for now instead of peice mealing it to save on shipping.
Unfortunately I do not own the Avalanche Press 1898 to help come up with "what if" sceanrios for this period.
TIA,

SPAIN•Light Cruiser Reina Cristina (flagship) L-317 •Light Cruiser Castilla L-319 •Don Antonio de Ulloa •Don Juan de Austria•Gunboat Isla de Cuba D-309 •Gunboat Isla de Luzón D-309 •Marques del Duero Don Antonio & Don Ulloa are Velasco-class Unprotected Cruisers (L-318). I need to doublecheck Marques del Duero... she was a schooner-rigged gunboat (3rd class by 1895) and I wrote down the wrong stock number in my notes. TIA, As far as unengaged vessels go... New York (AC) and Massachusetts (B) weren't engaged at Santiago de Cuba, but they were there. The Terror wasn't engaged, either. And the Spanish have several important vessels held back for the defense of the homeland (after they failed to transit the Suez Canal in a timely fashion) including Pelayo (B) (L-335) and Carlos V (AC) (L-336). I know there are a couple of others... but I'll have to get back to you.

Other possible players (especially if the Spanish fleet was successful in drawing the Americans into a battle off of the Canary Islands) would be Alfonso XIII or Lepanto. Both were Reina Regente-class 1st-class protected cruisers that were stationed in home waters. Panzerschiffe stock number is L-342.
Still tracking down Marques del Duero. She was a big PG (single stack amidships), nearly 160ft in length, so I'm not certain what you could proxy for her.

Panzerschiffe doesn't have a perfect match, but the Temarario-class (sp? I had thought it was Temerario...) looks strikingly similar. Stock number is D-313. If not this class, I'd go with the Concha-class as a decent proxy for the Fernando el Catolico-class gunboats. The Concha, Lezo, and Elcano were more heavily armed than the Marques del Duero, but practically the same size and of similar look. Especially considering manufacturer and scale. Stock number is D-308. Hope this helps.

Thanks....I will look into those. David at PS might have an idea as well. I am guessing he intends something for these and may just be under another name. The 3rd one was originally French.
Bluebear posted a good a good link in the other thread.

I will be surprised if PS does not have a model for each of the engaged units. After all why would you do a Spanish American War line and not include all the ships that actually fought in the two pricipal engagements?
My guess is they are just named differently.
I will post an update once I hear back.

I will note that for a number of countries that didn't actually fight in the Pre-Dread period, there are Pre-Dread era ships listed in their WWI lists.
Also, many ships are listed with their original country . . . and a number of Spanish ships were originally Italian as I recall.

Good point. The French (and British) built some as well.

*****2/17 UPDATE all have now been confirmed with Dave from Panzerschiffe I have updated the first post and the list is now complete. Good Job fastgit you were right on the money. The Marques del Duero is kind of an enigma and Dave does not have that particular model. He did agree that D308 would probably be the best substitute from his models. At 1/2400 I do not think it will really matter. Now we will see which comes firts my fleet or RotB2. HTH,

My guess...your fleet, at least it will come in the mail first! I would hope the models arrive in the mail before then...of course I do not consider my fleet arrived until it is ready to set sail on the gaming table.

Good news. Thanks for the legwork. Now I can finish putting together that order. ;D I warned David he might see a few orders in the coming weeks. Since I already owned 3 of the Ships on the list from a silent auction lot my total came to $60.00 +S/H. Not bad considering I will have every ship for the two historical engagements. Once RoTB2 comes out I may consider getting some others for What if scenarios. I already have a number of other USN units that did not participate form the auction as well. This will keep me busy for awhile.

I'm doing Manila Bay using Wartime Journals ships in 1/1500. They have all of them. In that battle I believe the unprotected cruiser Velasco was present but not part of the battle. It's known that the Germans were unhappy about the Americans grabbing all the choice bits of the Spanish Empire. The German East Asia squadron made some visits to Manila Bay shortly after the battle and had to be shown off by Dewey's ships. Their intervention can make an interesting "what if". I'm currently looking for those ships. Also the Russian and British pacific squadrons were at swords point. So lots of interesting possibilities in 1898 Pacific
